Rescue Diver

The PADI Rescue Diver course is a challenging yet rewarding course, which prepares you to handle dive emergencies and assist others in need. Through a combination of knowledge development, skill exercises, and realistic rescue scenarios, you'll learn to prevent and manage diving incidents, conduct underwater searches, provide proper assistance, and perform emergency rescue techniques.

Become a Confident and Capable Diver

Prerequisites

At least 12 years old (12- to 14-year-old divers may earn Junior Rescue Diver certifications)
PADI (Junior) Adventure Diver certification – must have completed the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive, or Advanced Open Water.
Confidence in the water and good physical health
EFR (Emergency First Response) Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months. Training may be completed along with the rescue diver course.

Course Structure

Knowledge Development

Learn about dive emergency prevention and management through online study or classroom sessions.

Rescue Exercises

Practice key rescue skills in controlled environments, such as recognizing diver stress, managing emergencies, and assisting panicked or unresponsive divers.

Rescue Scenarios

Apply your skills in realistic scenarios that simulate common dive emergencies, both in the water and at the surface.

Program

Complete five online knowledge development segments and exam.
Demonstrate skills from the Self-Rescue Review either in confined or open water.
Demonstrate skills from Rescue Exercises 1–10 in open water.
Participate in Rescue Scenarios 1 and 2 in open water.
Prepare an emergency assistance plan for a dive site.

Certification

Successfully complete the exercises and scenarios to earn your PADI Rescue Diver certification, making you a more confident and prepared diver.

Emergency First Response (EFR) Course
